Karralika Programs Inc has been supporting communities throughout the ACT and NSW for 45 years, providing quality support and intervention services for families and individuals impacted by alcohol and other drugs.
Thanks to continued growth and internal movement, we now have a rewarding opportunity available for an experienced and compassionate Community Alcohol and Drug Nurse to join the team on a full-time basis in Wagga Wagga in providing support to children and young people aged 10 to 19 years old.

How You’ll Make a Difference
As our next Community Alcohol and Drug Nurse, you will be changing the lives of children and young people impacted by alcohol and other drugs, as well as their families.
You will work within a small team, and with an experienced counsellor, however your daily activities will be largely autonomous. Based in Wagga Wagga, you’ll be visiting clients throughout the region (as far as Young) at their homes, schools, community centres, or other safe places that the child/young person feels comfortable.
Our Community Alcohol and Drug Nurses take a hands-on and holistic approach to our clients’ recovery journeys, ensuring they assist in accessing necessary resources.
Day-to-day responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Working alongside the counsellor to assess and engage children/young people into treatment to support their needs
- Providing a comprehensive, holistic assessment and supporting the child/young person to address their health needs
- Supporting children/young people to improve their health literacy and provide education on health issues
- Reducing the harms related to alcohol and other drug use, primarily through supporting the child/young person and their family to reduce or withdraw from substances
- Working in an integrated community model of care alongside other organisations and other providers

What You’ll Bring to the Team
To be considered for this position, you must be a Registered Nurse (Div 1) with unconditional AHPRA Registration.
Critical to your success in this role will be a working knowledge of emerging drug treatments and best practice surrounding alcohol and drug treatment services. You should have prior demonstrated experience in clinical health services, with the ability to confidently perform holistic health assessments and screenings.
You will preferably have demonstrated experience in a similar role that saw you working across community health, mental health, child/youth/family health and/or alcohol and other drugs. Please refer to the Position Description linked above for more information about the requirements for this role.
